Thanksgiving is not just a day, but a season - it is a reminder to be grateful for all of the blessings we have received. In giving back, we want to show our appreciation for those who have influenced our community by keeping our citizens protected, and offering the highest quality service for everyone who lives, works, and plays in the City of Miami Beach.
The men and women of the Miami Beach Police Department (MBPD) have dedicated their lives to pursue every opportunity and engage in all challenges that come their way. Their mission is to prevent crime and keep the greater community safe from harm’s way. For this and so much more, we thank you!
Like MBPD, Miami Beach Fire Department is also on an all day, every day mission to keep us safe. They are dedicated to provide our community with a high level of safety and security through fire prevention, emergency and disaster services, and ocean life safety.
Earlier this year, Baywatch was filmed right here on Miami Beach (The film will be released by Paramount Pictures on May 19, 2017 in the US). As two actors were filming in the ocean, a fierce current started heading their way. Unable to make it back to shore, MB Lifeguard Medina, with support from a fellow lifeguard, dove into the water when he noticed two swimmers struggling in the current. Together, the lifeguards saved their lives, pulling the two back to shore on a paddleboard. Because of their commitment, our MB Lifeguards were able to rescue two actors from the Baywatch film and bring them back to shore safe and sound.
In paying it forward, these brave men and women have protected over 200 million beachgoers every year! We couldn’t be prouder of the work of our fire fighters, first responders, and of course, our MB lifeguards!
The City of Miami Beach has implemented a sense of family amongst us that has brought us closer during this special time. We are grateful to the City and Mount Sinai Medical Center for partnering with us to implement the nation’s first free sunscreen dispenser program – we couldn’t have done it without your help.
As this year comes to an end, we thank you for allowing us to provide you with the best protection we can offer and for letting us share a little of Miami Beach with you.
Happy holidays to you and yours.
During the month of October, Miami Beach Suncare #GoesPink in honor of breast cancer awareness. As part of our commitment to giving back, we have dedicated this month to raising awareness on the impact that cancer, and in particular, breast cancer can have on our community. Only by working together can we make progress towards finding a cure.
According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, it is estimated that among U.S. women there will be 246,660 new cases of invasive Breast Cancer and 40,450 Breast Cancer deaths just this year! If that isn’t enough, one in eight women in the United States will be diagnosed with Breast Cancer in their lifetime. This is an ongoing struggle for women and happens to be the most commonly diagnosed cancer. While it is less common in men, there is still an estimated 2,600 men that will be diagnosed each year.
We often forget that breast cancer not only impacts the individual, but also their friends, family, and loved ones. It’s never easy to watch someone you love suffer and while they may not be dealing with the disease physically, they are being affected by it mentally and emotionally. It is important to be supportive to the families who are dealing with breast cancer and for them to know that there are millions of people, nation-wide trying to find a solution to end this fight.
At MB Suncare, our primary goal is to increase awareness and prevention with respect to skin cancer. We take pride in promoting a healthy, well-balanced lifestyle to avoid any sort of disease, and this month, we focus on early detection and finding a cure for breast cancer. We want to STAND UP TO FOR THE CURE and support initiatives working to help end this vicious battle.
Together, we can fight breast cancer by detecting the early stages through mammograms, or breast cancer screenings. National Breast Cancer Awareness Month should be your head start to committing to a better living environment. Proper exercise, eating right, and having a positive attitude are three major keys to a stronger, healthier, and happier lifestyle.
It is also imperative to schedule annual check-ups and feel comfortable talking to your Doctor about any questions or concerns you may have. By giving back, spreading the word, and increasing awareness people are already doing their part without even knowing it – the movement flows and continues to grow.
During the month of October we participated at MBCiclovia where families joined us for fun, coloring activities related to Breast Cancer Awareness along with free sunscreen samples for everyone to stay protected throughout the day. We also donated MB Suncare samples to Making Strides for Breast Cancer for those influential women in our community to continue raising awareness. MB Suncare thrives on keeping the public safe from skin disease and as #MBGoesPink in October, we take pride in raising awareness for Breast Cancer.
On behalf of MB Suncare we would like to thank all of you for helping us make a difference and standing up for the cure by increasing education on Breast Cancer. To learn more about our efforts to give back, follow our Instagram and Twitter page @MBSuncare.
As part of our commitment to giving back to our community, Miami Beach Suncare hosted a cleanup site for the 30th Annual International Coastal Cleanup on September 17, 2016.
Organized by VolunteerCleanup.org and the International Ocean Conservancy effort, we were one of 45 host sites in Miami-Dade County working hard to keep our coasts clean! Along with the City of Miami Beach’s Styrofoam ban, this is a great way of coming together to fight for debris free seas. Trash in the water can compromise our health as well as that of the wildlife that depends on a healthy ocean. This is why our annual participation in this event is so critical to our mission of keeping our beaches beautiful.
It’s important to highlight the effects that a pollution filled environment can have on the wildlife in the area. On Miami Beach, for instance, we are still in turtle nesting season, which began on May 1st and runs through the end of October. While each turtle typically lays about 100 eggs, only 1 of the 100 eggs will survive to adulthood. With that, the amount of debris left on our beaches can deter the chances of that one little sea turtle making it into the ocean. It’s our responsibility to keep our beaches clean and to maintain our oceans pollution-free. MB Suncare remains committed to doing our part.
With the help of our volunteers, we collected all types of trash from cigarette butts to plastic bottles and food wrappers. Plastic debris remains a growing concern in the marine environment with the top five most commonly collected items being plastic so our volunteers placed extra emphasis on searching for plastic. On that typically warm sunny Saturday morning on Miami Beach, the team was full of smiles and ready to work hard to keep our beaches clean and healthy!
On behalf of MB Suncare, we would like to thank each volunteer who took the time to help us leave our coastal areas better than we found them. We also want to recognize the efforts of Dara Schoenwald, the event coordinator for Miami-Dade, who ensured that we were all well equipped to do our very best at each cleanup site. It was a great day of glove wearing, bag carrying, debris documenting fun! We look forward to seeing you at our next cleanup!
Las Vegas, NV – Miami Beach Suncare receives national recognition for setting trends with their free sunscreen dispenser program. The prestigious 2016 Trendsetter Award was presented to the brand at the 14th Edition of Cosmoprof North America’s Annual Beauty Show in Las Vegas last month. The event serves as the leading B2B beauty trade show highlighting revolutionary technologies and forward-thinking programs.
Awarded to a select few of the 1,200 exhibiting brands, the Trendsetter Award identifies the most innovative exhibitors at the show. As the first in the nation to offer free sunscreen to the public, Miami Beach Suncare, in partnership with Mount Sinai Medical Center and the City of Miami Beach, is leading a national movement in skin cancer prevention.
This award comes on the heels of Vice President Joe Biden’s recognition of the sunscreen dispenser program and the City’s commitment to continue the program for at least another five years. “We are honored to have the opportunity to serve as a leader in providing practical solutions for skin cancer prevention in our country,” said Desiree Rodriguez, Vice President for Sales and Marketing at Destination Brands International (suncare manufacturer). “We are grateful for the platform that Cosmoprof provided to showcase this program and our commitment to giving back to our community.”
Miami Beach is blessed with its seven mile stretch of sandy beaches, top notch recreational facilities and extensive network of parks. With all of the fun in the sun available, we have to ensure to balance year-round outdoor fun with serious sun-safety habits.
Last year, we partnered with the City of Miami Beach and Mount Sinai Medical Center in taking an active role in reversing the rising tide of skin cancer by offering free SPF 30 sunscreen in many public areas. The first in the nation to launch such a program, sunscreen dispensers are now available citywide at lifeguard stands, public pools and parks.
As the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the United States, skin cancer impacts five million people each year and costs $8.1 billion in treatment. Most skin cancers can be prevented with appropriate sun protection that includes applying sunscreens with broad spectrum protection (against both UVA and UVB rays), that are water resistant and have an SPF factor of at least 30.
Miami Beach sunscreen dispensers are filled with MB Triple Action Sea Kelp Sunscreen lotion, a water resistant, broad spectrum SPF 30. The three types of sea kelp offer additional skin benefits in helping to replenish proteins and minerals lost in the sun, firm the appearance of the skin and protect against photo-aging.
In response to Vice President Joe Biden’s Cancer Moonshot call to action, Miami Beach is dedicated to continuing its sunscreen dispenser program for at least the next five years to help achieve a decade or more of cancer prevention progress in half the time.
As the sun and fun capital of the world, millions engage in a plethora of outdoor offerings on our urban-island — from relaxing on our internationally-renowned beaches to enjoying our many parks — and we will ensure these recreational activities are being enjoyed safely by maintaining our free sunscreen dispensers citywide.
MB Miami Beach Suncare, the City’s official and exclusive suncare is at it again. The brand is heating things up just in time for Spring Break and we’re not just talking about the sun. “We know this year is going to be monumental for MB Miami Beach Suncare” said VP of Sales and Marketing for Destination Brands, Desiree Rodriguez. “Listening to our customers has been pivotal in the evolution of this brand and we are thrilled to share the results.”
The refreshed look highlights products formulated for getting that perfect tan, having fun in the sun and sea, staying active and healthy, protecting the delicate skin of our kids and healing skin after fun in the sun. Art Basel Miami Beach brings an unrivaled breath of life during the much anticipated time of the year where all of us creatives, artists, and art enthusiasts alike unite in an utterly blissful week of events and exhibits to capture the heart of the artistic Miami soul.
In this annual show, leading galleries from North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia and Africa show significant work from Modern and contemporary art, as well the new generation of emerging stars. Paintings, sculptures, installations, photographs, and films are on display for locals and visitors alike to explore. Artworks, films and performances became part of the city's outdoor landscape.
This year, MB Suncare had an opportunity to partner with key artists, venues and events to share a little of Miami Beach with all who participated. Our public sunscreen dispenser was exhibited on the walkway to the entrance of SCOPE Miami Beach’s spacious pavilion offering free sunscreen to all who attended. As the largest and most global art fair in the world, SCOPE celebrated its 15th anniversary this year with many well-established galleries on the sand.
Now that the holidays are here and we are closing in on the final week of November, we want to take a moment to thank all of you, who have supported us and believe in what we do here at MB Miami Beach Suncare. Whether you have followed our growth from the beginning, joined us for a beach cleanup or are a new comer to the movement, we thank you for allowing us to share a little of Miami Beach with you.
This holiday season serves as a reminder to us all to spread love, goodwill and gratitude. For us at MB Suncare, it’s a reminder of our true passion of making an impact in our community by keeping our beaches beautiful! From hosting local beach and coastal cleanups, to collaborating in local events to increase awareness on the importance of skin protection, we couldn’t have done it without you.
In looking back at the past year, we are truly grateful to have been able to launch our public sunscreen dispenser program on Miami Beach in collaboration with Mount Sinai Medical Center and the City of Miami Beach. We now have a public avenue to help protect everyone who lives, works and plays on Miami Beach by providing the highest quality sunscreen for their skin.
For us, it has truly been about the day to day accomplishments that give us those goose bumps of excitement and joy. Knowing that you are with us for the ride is even more rewarding. Please know that we are here to serve you.

As you know, we’re big on giving back and one of the ways that we do that is by increasing awareness on skin cancer prevention. During the month of October, we want to take a moment to highlight one of the leading types of cancer diagnosed in women which is breast cancer (Skin cancer beginning the runner up).
According to the National Cancer Institute, it is estimated that in 2015, over 1.6 million new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in the US. This translates to about 40% of the population being diagnosed with some form of cancer at some point in their life.
Here at MB we want to STAND UP TO CANCER and promote a healthy, well-balanced lifestyle. Prevention (where applicable) and early detection are key ways to fight against cancer in our lives and in the lives of those we love.[article-end-block-up]
For starters, testing for precancerous conditions and having an early detection plan have played a critical role in the increase of survival rates. Being aware of any developing lumps or changes in your breast and/or body, practicing self-breast exams, having regular clinical exams, and never skipping yearly mammograms are ways of ensuring that you are being proactive in the upkeep of your healthy lifestyle.
Did you know that there is a 98.6% rate of breast cancer survivors by those who caught the symptoms at early stages!
Here are our top five pointers for healthy living:
- Consider October your head start on those New Year resolutions and make the commitment to your diet and health goals NOW.
- Always urge against the excess consumption of alcohol, smoke and Tabaco.
- Choose the right skin and suncare products to protect your largest organ daily.
- When in doubt CHECK IT OUT! Actively schedule checkups with your Doctor’s office.
- Give back, spread the word. Do your part to increase awareness and continue the movement!
In doing our part, MB Miami Beach Sun care participated in this year’s Annual Tee Off Fore Wellness Golf and Tennis Tournament hosted by the Cancer Support Community of Greater Miami. On October 19th, we provided all guests with MB Miami Beach Sun care protection while helping to raise more than $125k to support those families impacted by cancer in our community. Check out event photos here.
On behalf of the MB Miami Beach Suncare family, we thank you for supporting our efforts to make a difference in our community and take a stand in increasing awareness and education about cancer.
Stay tuned for more community events of togetherness!
We cannot thank our volunteers enough for another incredible International Coastal Cleanup Day! This year’s cleanup reminded us once again of the importance of our commitment to keeping our beaches beautiful! Coordinated by VolunteerCleanup.org as a part of the internationalOcean Conservancy effort, about 2,400 volunteers joined forces on Saturday, September 19th to collect trash from 30 miles of coastline.
We had the opportunity to separate recyclables from the trash we found and we couldn’t be more grateful to the hard work and dedication of everyone who joined us this past weekend. These volunteers did more than just trash collection – they documented every item from cigarette butt to bottle cap.
Our volunteers walked back with bags so full and heavy, they could hardly carry them. They would then hydrate, reapply sunscreen and go back out with another bag and a smile. Each person who joined us knew they were making a difference and their pride in doing so was evident not just to us as the hosts of the cleanup but to Miami Beach Ocean Rescue and many residents and visitors who came up to us to thank us for keeping our beaches beautiful.
Then, if that wasn’t enough, this group of volunteers wanted to make a statement about the kinds of trash found on our beaches. After talking through some of the items we found, we realized that there was enough articles of clothing to fully dress a person! We couldn’t believe it. It goes to show that we need to do more to ensure that trash stays off of our beaches and waterways.
We want to recognize a particular group of volunteers who joined us this year – the Miami Beach Resort and Spa team! This group recently adopted the 53rd Street Park/Beach and found a great way to do more by joining us for the cleanup. They were so enthusiastic and willing to work hard for our beaches. We are truly grateful for having them join us.
Thanks again for doing your part to help us keep our beaches beautiful. Don’t forget that a portion of all proceeds goes back to skin protection education and beach cleanups like the International Coastal Cleanup Day so keep yourself and our beaches beautiful with MB Miami Beach Suncare!
